Drifting….pausing…life may have other ideas and maintaining balance amidst it all becomes the challenge.

Our expectations shape our experience; I recall talking about dreams as our wings and expectations being the stones that weigh them down in a earlier blog. We nuture our dreams and we have these mental pictures on how they are going to be when we bring them to life. I think it is fair to say that we will be challenged whilst we are bringing our dreams to life and as for our expectations, I will be ditching mine along with yesterday’s old newspaper.

Running in parallel with this is the decisions we make, such as a decision to drift, pausing to savour a moment and to just be. Warning, life may intrude on these too.

A cherished and long held dream of mine has been to have chickens and ducks pottering about in the garden and like writing, painting, sewing, baking and making preserves this is food for my soul. Whilst I watched part of my dream pottering around the garden yesterday I drifted and paused to savour the moment. Around tea-time life had other ideas and I had to cease drifting very quickly to deal with life and try and maintain balance within it all. What occurred throughout the evening was a cross between a scene from Fawlty Towers and the OK Corral. By bedtime I had single handedly restored order and this morning Ben listened over the telephone whilst a weepy girlfriend explained that perhaps we had to re-think how her livestock dream was brought into reality. My Magical Elf and handy son are coming over the hill with the tools and equipment I need to adjust my dream with fit in with life.

Balance is being maintained at this end by pottering and re-shaping our home for the changes that are occurring for our children and planning a celebratory multi-layered iced lemon curd cake and a roast chicken dinner. Now before anyone rings, texts or emails, no, it is not one of our ‘girls’ hitting the pot – as if????
